Slow Money -- Assistant to the Chairman (Boulder, CO)
Posted on: 02/08/2012
Company: Slow Money
Job Summary:
Slow Money, an NGO that is building a network of investors, philanthropists, entrepreneurs and activists dedicated to catalyzing the flow of capital to local food systems and small food enterprises, is seeking an Assistant to the Chairman. Woody Tasch, Slow Money's Founder and Chairman, is moving to Magnolia, 10 miles from Boulder, where he will be working out of a 1,000 square foot home office housed in a separate cottage on his property. The Assistant to the Chairman will be a full-time position, working with Woody there. (Over time, another staff person may also be added to this small Boulder team. Slow Money has two other staff people, one located in Boston and one in Berkeley.)

Slow Money hosts public meetings that connect entrepreneurs and investors, organizes investment clubs, is launching a philanthropic investment fund called the Soil Trust, and has an active communication program organized around the Slow Money Principles, which have been signed by 22,000 people. Since 2010, more than $11 million has been invested directly in scores of small food enterprises around the country by slow money investors. There are now 12 Slow Money Chapters around the country, including one in Boulder, with another dozen in formation.

The responsibilities and compensation of this position will reflect the experience level and skill set of the candidate, who will work directly with the Chairman on a wide range of tasks, from the administrative to the strategic, including: basic administration (travel logistics and flight arrangements, scheduling conference calls, booking and arranging speaking engagements, and managing the Chairman's schedule), phone work (fielding general inquiries and interfacing with Slow Money members around the country), internet publishing (collaborating with Slow Money staff in other locations on execution of internet communications, including building a monthly webinar audience, invited blogging at various media outlets, and pushing content to Facebook), and research and special projects (researching topics of interest in support of the Chairman's speaking and writing agenda). Experience with marketing and a flair for rapid copy writing, a plus.

NPR has called Slow Money a movement. ACRES USA called it a revolution. Entrepreneur.com called it one of the top five trends in finance in 2011. Utne Magazine cited Woody as one of the 25 visionaries who are changing the world. Much of this excitement has been generated by the book, Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money: Investing as if Food, Farms and Fertility Mattered.

We are looking for a creative, engaged, intellectually curious individual with a working knowledge of sustainability, excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a highly collaborative environment. Slow Money has the potential to scale considerably and to become a major player on the national stage. Qualified candidates should present an overall skill set and temperament capable of making a significant contribution to this emerging enterprise.

To apply, please submit a one page cover letter and resume.
